Allow me to offer congratulations on your impending nuptials. No doubt the happy event will have taken place by the time my correspondence arrives.

I have arrived at the countryseat of Brixham Hall, and I am dismayed to

convey that all is not well here.

The overseer has neglected his responsibilities shockingly. I have been afraid that this would happen – if you recall, I advised against hiring that man in particular. Many of the tenants’ rents are overdue, and they now have a great deal of back-paid rent owing. Naturally, the tenants are unable and unwilling to pay this rent. As far as I can gather, they did pay the rent, and it was pocketed by the overseer. I have of course dismissed the man.

As to recovering the funds owing, I am not able to do so without evicting all the tenants. I did not think you would agree with that course of action, and they are, after not, to blame.

I must urge you to travel down to Brixham Hall immediately to deal with this issue. If you wish to cancel the money owing, that must be done by you yourself, in person.

I reiterate, your presence is requested urgently at Brixham Hall, otherwise I will need to straighten out these problems myself. The only option open to me is to evict the tenants in order to pay the rent owing.
